More Info

Marshall Tucker Band: While they might not have been the most commercially successful Southern rock act of the 70s, the Marshall Tucker Band was pivotal in the genre's rise to popularity. While their heyday was short-lived, they distinguished themselves from other Southern rock bands by employing elements of R&B, jazz, and gospel music alongside long instrumentals during tour dates. The Marshall Tucker Band has continued to release music and perform popular concert dates, utilizing an ever-revolving lineup of musicians that includes original keyboardist and vocalist, Doug Gray. The Marshall Tucker Band has plenty of tour dates in 2011, with concert dates that extend well into the end of the year. Fans of the Marshall Tucker Band will find them playing tour dates at various festivals, fairs, and even a cruise, so make sure to check Eventful for concert information.

The Marshall Tucker Band was formed using musicians that had played around Spartanburg, South Carolina for years. The original lineup consisted of lead guitarist and singer Toy Caldwell, Doug Gray, flutist Jerry Eubanks, guitarist George McCorkle, bassist Tommy Caldwell, and drummer Raul Riddle. The band began their recording career with five gold albums: their self-titled debut, A New Life, Where We All Belong, Searchin' for a Rainbow, and Long Hard Ride. Their rise to fame reached its pinnacle in 1977 with the release of Carolina Dreams, which went platinum. About a year after the 1979 release of Running Like the Wind, bassist Tommy Caldwell died as a result of injuries from a car accident and the Marshall Tucker Band briefly disbanded in 1983. Doug Gray would restart the band in 1988 with new members and continue to release albums and perform concert dates for over twenty years.

The Marshall Tucker Band has numerous tour dates in 2011, with the remaining concert dates in May taking place in Southern California. Highlighted concert dates for the rest of the tour include an appearance at the Wichita River Festival on June 4, the Enfield Fourth of July Town Celebration on July 9, and the 37th Annual Milford Oyster Festival on August 20. The Marshall Tucker Band will play a number of concert dates at festivals in September, including Septemberfest in Omaha on the 3rd and Chickenstock Live in Salisbury, Maryland on the 24th. October will bring the Marshall Tucker Band to a number of state fairs, including tour dates at the State Fair of Virginia and the Arkansas State Fair. After taking a break in November, the band will set sail on a number of concert dates on the Rock Legends Cruise. The cruise leaves on December 1 from Fort Lauderdale and will feature other southern rock legends like ZZ Top, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, and Foghat. While that will wrap up tour dates in 2011 for the Marshall Tucker Band, they are sure to have plenty more concert dates at the start of 2012.
